Czyznikiewicz on Joan Murphy: "Conversion of Public Money to Campaign Contributions is Illegal..."

Oak Forest, Illinois — November 1, 2010 — Former Worth Township Supervisor and Previous Chief Investigator for the Cook County Board of Ethics, 6th District Cook County Commissioner, Joan Patricia Murphy, is certainly not unfamiliar with news investigations revealing controversial practices on the Board:

o        In 2008, it was revealed that she converted a fund, containing public money, into personal income; and filed, as such, with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), along with another Board Commissioner.

o        In 2009, Murphy was questioned for using the same public fund to make an $839.00 monthly car payment on a Lexus, in addition to purchasing beer at a local restaurant.

o        And in early 2010, Murphy’s initials were found, unexpectedly, on documents submitted through an open bid process that Fox News Chicago’s Dane Placko and the Better Government Association’s Andy Shaw, in a combined investigation, could only describe as “magic.”

But according to Sandra “Sandi” Czyznikiewicz, Joan Patricia Murphy’s 6th District Commissioner’s seat opponent, voters and taxpayers should pay close attention to the Commissioner’s personal campaign contributions available on the Illinois State Board of Elections website.

In particular, Czyznikiewicz is concerned about the following three contributions Murphy’s campaign received from the Village of Alsip in 2007, and 2008:

Only $1,000.00 in total, it’s quite obvious that this money very well could have been misappropriated, or stolen, by the person who had control of the “General Fund” that appears to be public money.

“This is just frustrating. My opponent in this race is hardly the bastion of ethics, but I can’t imagine how Murphy, a former Ethics Board Investigator, could overlook something like this,” proclaims Czyznikiewicz on the eve of Election Day, “but it just makes me feel like I’ve done the right thing by being in this race.”
