Cicero Gun Registration Application Being Referred to the National Rifle Association (NRA) for Constitutional Review...

Open Letter Dated May 28, 2011

Dear Cicero Police Department,

With respect to my firearm purchase on May 10, 2011, please find the following items attached:

Completed Gun Registration Application, Notarized May 26, 2011 (2-sided)
Freedom Firearms Purchase Invoice #580251, Dated May 5, 2011
Check for $25.00 Made Payable to the “Town of Cicero,” Dated May 27, 2011
Glock Technical Data Chart
Article A: Full Face Photograph, 2 inches [wide] by 2 inches [high] in size
Article B: Copy of Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card

Where my response(s) to your instructions are enumerated in the order they appear on the application:

  1. Sections A and C are completed, as requested. Section B is nothing more than an exact replica of Section A; and I’m not filling out more than one application for only one firearm.
  2. I am only registering one firearm.
  3. Your request for a picture is only as obnoxious as it is intrusive and unnecessary. Nonetheless, I’ve provided the picture used on my Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card, modified to the exact dimensions you’ve requested.
If I provided an additional copy, it would be exactly the same photograph; so I prefer not to waste my time.
  1. I’m not providing my name and Social Security number on the back of the photograph; especially since this information is already provided [unnecessarily] in Section A of the enclosed application.
  2. I signed the application in only two places, Section A and Section C, as Section B is only Section A repeated. Section C is notarized, as requested.
  3. I have an Illinois Driver’s License. The quality of my vision, as well as my confidential medical records and/or history, is/are none of your business.
  4. A copy of my Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card is enclosed.
  5. I am not a security guard.
  6. A $25.00 check is included. And let’s face it, that’s all you wanted in the first place. Pricks.
  7. If I choose to re-register this firearm in two years, I expect this application to be revised; specifically, reduced. After all, it’s unnecessarily convoluted, intrusive, and possibly Unconstitutional.
  8. All enclosed documents, including this letter, have been mailed in a No. 10 business envelope. Pricks.

After being the victim of a violent home invasion on November 1st, 2009; I was at least pleased with the quality of response I got from the Cicero Police Department, and how they responded quickly, apprehended the criminal, at the scene, and handled the resulting paperwork and proceedings [including moral support].

Moreover, I was highly encouraged by many of Cicero’s finest police officers, at the scene of the crime, and since, to take my Second Amendment rights seriously; and arm myself for protection against any future home invasions that, suffice it to say, hopefully never occur.

But now that I’ve acquired my first firearm, I’m disappointed in this process for registration; since it appears that some lazy desk officer, who’s not even under direct fire, appears to be collecting these applications, and not putting up enough of a fuss to get this registration process removed from existence [or even reduced].

After all, most local governments in Illinois don’t require additional registration. And I’m sure I’d be wasting my time if I said that it’s not legal gun owners, like me, who are committing crimes with firearms in the streets.

Thank you for your time and consideration; and if you have any future correspondences, including follow-up questions, please direct them to my attorney:

Additionally, I’ll be asking counsel at the National Rifle Association (NRA) to extensively review this application.
